How well have you arranged the things that matter?

Think of your passport or ID card, birth certificate, marriage certificate, insurance policies and bank papers.

A trusted person is someone who can step in if something happens to you.

For example your doctor, your employer, a funeral director or your best friend.

A will is an official document, usually drawn up by a lawyer or notary, stating for example who receives what. Without a will, the law decides who your heirs are.

For example about money or medical choices if you are ill. This can be arranged in a power of attorney.

Such as health, funeral or life insurance and home contents insurance: which company and which policy number.

For example burial or cremation, music, who may speak, or a religious or cultural ritual.

Think of your email, social media, photos in the cloud and online subscriptions. This is also called your digital legacy.

For example with a password manager or a sealed envelope with someone you trust. Never just write passwords on a list.

Such as phone, energy, streaming services and memberships. They often keep running if nobody cancels them.

For children under 18 you can name a guardian in your will. For others, clear agreements help.

For example about your childhood, how you met your partner or what you learned from your parents.

Think of the names of your grandparents, where they lived and which traditions your family has.

Your grandmother’s dish, a song that was always sung, or how your family celebrates a holiday.
